Rug Care & Maintenance

Over time, your rug is going to lose its natural beauty depending on how it’s taken care of. Through the normal processes of the day, foot traffic can bring dirt, oils, grime, and other debris that can make your rug look dingy.

With a little care, your rug will stay in great condition and look beautiful for years to come. Here are some rug maintenance tips you can follow to keep your rug looking great.

Vacuum regularly

The best place to begin is with the most obvious. The truth is that your rug needs continual vacuuming, especially if you have a pet. Pets not only bring in the dirt, oils, and debris from outside but shed and leave hair behind. Vacuuming rugs on a regular basis can help to remove debris not only brought in by your pets but by your family or friends as well.

Plus, it is essential to understand that dirt and debris that is not removed will become ingrained in your rug, permanently blemishing the look of your rug. Vacuum your rug at least twice a week if it’s in a high traffic area, or every other week if it’s not in a high traffic area. Vacuum your rug using soft brush.

Limit the Light

Sung Light may look great in your living room, bedroom, or den, but too much exposure to sunlight can damage your rug. A lot of light over time will cause your rug to lose its colour. In peak times, when the sun is shining directly into your rooms, pull the shades or drapes to block out the sun.

Rotate your Rug

The other important tip is to rotate your rug. Rotating your rug every six months will help it wear more evenly, so one side doesn’t start to wear down before the other. As mentioned before exposure to sunlight may fade your rug. Rotating it every six month ensures it fades evenly on both sides.

Spot cleaning Urgency

Spot clean stains as soon as possible: If you spot clean stains as soon as possible, it is much easier to remove them before they set in and become permanent stains that are hard to remove.

To spot clean use carpet stain removers that doesn’t contain peroxide or bleach. Mild household detergents such as dishwashing liquid with a soft sponge can be used to spot clean.
